Description

A delightful dessert that combines layers of chocolate cake, whipped cream, cherries, and vanilla pudding, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix (or 1 homemade chocolate cake)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for whipping)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups canned or fresh cherries (pitted, with juice or syrup)
  • 1/4 cup cherry juice (from the canned cherries or fresh)
  • 2 cups vanilla pudding (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings (or grated chocolate)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box or your homemade recipe to bake the cake. Once done, let it cool completely.
  2. Whip the Cream: In a mixing bowl, pour in the heavy cream. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Use a mixer to whip the cream until it forms soft peaks.
  3. Prepare the Cherries: If using canned cherries, drain them and keep the juice. If using fresh cherries, wash, pit, and slice them. Mix the cherries with the cherry juice in a bowl.
  4. Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle dish or bowl, crumple half of the chocolate cake at the bottom. Layer with half of the cherries, followed by half of the vanilla pudding, and then half of the whipped cream. Repeat these layers with the remaining ingredients. Top with dark chocolate shavings and a sprinkle of cocoa powder if desired.
  5. Let it Chill: Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and place it in the fridge. Let it chill for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Store any leftover trifle in the refrigerator, covered with plastic wrap. Best enjoyed within 3 days. Do not freeze.
