Description
Delightful twist on classic red velvet cake, these cookies feature a rich cocoa flavor and a stunning red color with a soft, chewy texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp red food coloring
- Powdered sugar for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Once chilled, scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls.
- Roll each ball in powdered sugar until generously coated.
- Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Make sure the butter is softened but not melted. Don’t skip the chilling step; it helps the cookies hold their shape. Consider adding white chocolate chips or nuts for an extra twist.
